Da sollen die Verschwörungsfreaks mal was draus machen!

Es musste anscheinend direkt mit der (vorher ebenfalls super funktionierenden) Netzwerkkonfiguration zusammenhängen. Also habe ich mir die VPN-Verbindung mal genauer angeguckt. Und siehe da: Im Systemlog tauchten Meldungen von vpnc auf, die auch zeitlich zu missglückten E-Mail-Versuchen und dergleichen passten:

vpnc[xxxx]: sendto: Message too long

Damit konnte ich zunächst nichts anfangen. Dann hab ich mal über die GUI kvpnc ein neues Profil erstellt und siehe da: Alles prima. Jetzt musste nur noch den Unterschied zwischen meiner vpnc-Konfiguration und der von kvpnc finden und vpnc entsprechend konfigurieren, damit ich auch in der Konsole wieder angenehm ins Netz kann.

Dank ifconfig war ich der Sache schnell auf der Spur. Die MTU. Na dann ist ja alles klar.
Einfach

ifconfig tun0 mtu [Wert aus der kvpnc-Konfiguration]

ins VPN-Startscript und gut ist.

Fazit:
MTU ist ein Arschloch, aber immerhin hab ich wieder was gelernt.
